Interior Illusion – It’s a Kind of Wallpaper Magic

Piet Hein Eek Scrapwood Wallpaper

When I think of wallpaper mimicking something else I think back to the 1950’s and 60’s when your grandparents had almost lino style wallpaper with a little bit of padding and a badly printed stone effect to make the walls look like the were built out of real quarried stone.  Unfortunately the likeness was not too great and instead of looking like real stone walls they ended up looking like…. well a lino style wallpaper with a little bit of padding and a badly printed stone effect.  Albeit very kitch and with the times for those era’s, the trend stayed put with grandma and did not take off with the following generations.  However after a visit to the recent Furniture Fair at Sydney’s Darling Harbour, it seems that they style of faux wallpaper is coming back into trend, however with the intervention of quality laser printing you really do have to look twice to see that all may not be as it seems!!!!  It is very much a kind of wallpaper magic!!!!!!

Dutch designer Piet Hein Eek’s digitally printed Scrapwood Wallpaper gives the illusion of a distressed wooden plank surface. They come in a number of different styles.  The designs also won the the Editors Award at the 2011 International Contemporary Furniture Fair.

Even from close up it is difficult to tell the difference

On a practical side you would get the stressed wooden look with out the splinters, nails and termites!

Roll up the Book Case

Book Case Wallpaper - UK designers Y&B (Young and Battaglia) - opposite the White version

No wonder the bookshops are slowly fading into adversity when you can grab a kindle yet still mimic a library fit for a Rhode Scholar.

This bookcase wallpaper enables a study or living area to look grand without using up any space. And think of all the time you would save on dusting the shelves!

UK wallpaper company Y&B have produced this in colour, sepia and white….Put together with a lamp table and chesterfield and a couple of antique books you would have to look twice.

Chesterfield Feel

Y&B mimic Chesterfield wallpaper

Softening up the walls may now be achievable with the faux Chesterfield print from Y&B….. Although be careful not to overdo it otherwise you may feel a bit like you are in a padded cell….. Just be careful not to bang you head against the wall either!!!

Grout Free Tiles

Sydney wallpaper and textile company “Publisher Textiles” have the perfect answer to lining up the tiles and eradicating the need to clean the grout with their Moroccan inspired tile print wallpaper. Enabling you to bring the tiled look into a bedroom or living area.

Faking History

If your home lacks history, well Y&B’s “Stone Angels” wallpaper brings history to you.  Hopefully minus the cold stone feel of its namesake!  Although If you were to go this far you would probably look at a slightly more sympathetic door to match the grandeur of the room you have just entered!

The colourful journey goes on………
