Full of Papery Goodness – Jennifer Collier
Jennifer Collier is a UK based artist who creates everyday household objects like cameras, shoes and dresses from paper. The paper is treated as if it were cloth with the use of stitching to create the final sculptures.
“The papers themselves serve as both the inspiration and the media for my work, with the narrative of the books and papers suggesting the forms. I tend to find items then investigate a way in which they can be reused and transformed; giving new life to things that would otherwise go unloved or be thrown away.”
They certainly create an inspiration for me, once again I am blown away by how someone can be so creative with something so basic in it’s original form…. I have included some images from Jennifer’s collection below… Which one is your favourite?
Home and Garden
Typewriters, far more interesting to look at than iPads….albeit a little more strenuous for the wrists hammering down the keys…oh and the white out, keys jamming and carbon paper…. oh yes brings back memories of typing exams…..
Then ring ring goes the telephone….. turning the dial for more than 6 digits in a number…
…and the tangled thread of the Singer sewing machine…. I love the attention to detail in this one where Jennifer has used an old sewing pattern in the classical brown paper to create… gorgeous!
When it all gets too much…. a good old english cup of tea…well you know me and my English obsession for tea.
Shoes and Dresses
For those of you who prefer to reflect on their wardrobe, how cute are the shoes and dresses?
From baby shoes to bibs and dresses…These would look amazing framed in a child’s bedroom or nursery…
There are so many more wonderful paper sculptures on Jennifer’s website, and for anyone looking for a day with a difference, and you happen to live in the UK, Jennifer does run workshops for you to create your own little shoes……..As for me on with the colourful journey…..
